We've tapped into the blockchain world for the first time with Shard Labs when their name needed visual identity and they needed to become formally present online. Besides the brand design and a website, Shard Labs marketing team had an amazing idea: stand out with the custom illustrations representing every member of their team.

The challenge

The brief was simple: we had the freedom to give suggestions and figure out how to make visual identity pop with the custom illustrations representing Shard Labs team members. We knew what's not preferable for the color scheme and that they'd like to explore how "pixelated" characters would look like.

Branding

The overall brand identity is designed around vibrant colors and a combination of sharp shapes. Gradients made in shades of organge and green had The brief considered to go for the vibrant but "not to techy" vibe. We need to emphaOne element of the brand is showcased through custom character illustrations representing team members.

Web design

Visual direction created as part of the brand identity is used as a connection between brand representation and user experience, while aiming to convey enough information about the business itself, their unique approach to software development, and strive for worldwide collaboration.

Custom illustrations

Our favorite part of the process was experimenting with the characters. Our graphic designers began with a short questionnaire to uncover what makes each team member unique, combining those insights with their profile photos. From there, we explored ways to create pixelated versions of the characters. The GIF below explains it better than words ever could! Impressively, no second iteration was needed.
